Mac Pro 2009 4,1 Processor Upgrade Kit to 12-Core 3.46GHz Xeon X5690 SLBVX. This kit includes everything you need to upgrade your dual processor 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 to a Dual X5690, giving you 12-cores running at 3.46GHz.

These have been tested and guaranteed to work. We have experience upgrading many Mac Pros and will help you get the CPUs working with your system if you run into any trouble. The 2009 Mac Pro originally came with PC3-8500 RAM, and when upgrading the processor you can also upgrade the RAM to the faster PC3-10600 RAM, but this is not required, the RAM will just run at the slower speed.

This will only work with the Dual Processor 2009 Mac Pro model 4,1. It will NOT work in the single processor model Mac Pro, or the 5,1 model (2010 or later) for these you must use the standard Intel CPU with the IHS. If you've read anything about replacing the CPUs yourself, you've seen it's not easy, with this kit it is, we've already removed the IHS for you, so they fit perfectly inside the Mac Pro.

No need to cut/move any wires, add washers or thermal pads, we have removed the IHS for you allowing them to be very easily and quickly installed in the 2009 Mac Pro. It also eliminates the risk of damage to the CPU board caused by over tightening the CPU coolers. Everything you need is included, you just need a little bit of time to update the firmware and swap out the CPUs. This is the preferred method, but because of the tools and skills required to avoid the risk of damaging the CPU it's rarely done. The firmware update may not run if not using an original Apple video card.

If you do not have an Apple video card, or are unsure, let us know so we can make arrangements to loan you a video card to do the firmware update. Included in the kit are: 2x Xeon X5690 with the IHS removed 1x 3mm Hex/Allen key used to remove the heatsinks to access the processors 1x USB Drive to update your Mac to the 5,1 firmware (This update is not supported by Apple) 1x Tube of Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound 1x Chem Pad to clean the heatsink and cpus before installing them.
